Rent Boy

By Matthew Carey

You can call it a Rock Musical, you can call it a Rock Opera, but I think ‘RENT’ is a contemporary musical about contemporary people in contemporary society and contemporary situations. It’s an exciting work in the way that it reflects issues that we relate to right now (even if the show itself was first premiered in 1996). I think it’s an ambitious piece, but only by raising the bar higher and higher can you hope to leap to new heights.

On Monday night Catchy Title Productions announced an ambitious production of ‘RENT’ for November 2008. This will be the Adelaide premiere of the show that has been one of the longest running shows on Broadway in modern theatre history.

Producers Scott Nell and Sam Kluppels have pulled together a strong production team and are ensuring that this production will be the highlight of the 2008 Adelaide theatre season.

At the launch at Fowlers Live, Scott revealed that he will direct the piece, I will be musical director and Leigh Warren, one of Australia’s best choreographers, will be in charge of dance and movement.

Nationally recognised fashion designers George Gross and Harry Who are on board to design costumes for the show and media partner Blaze is helping conduct our ‘Search for an Angel’ promotion to cast the role of Angel.

Further information – including production dates, audition dates and details can all be found at the Catchy Title website I’ll definitely be posting more about the show as the production progresses!
