Cabaret Confessional

By Matthew Carey

I’m putting together a new show. I can’t tell you too much about it yet, because there’s a lot that I don’t know myself. But it will be called ‘Cabaret Confessional’ and it will feature as much original material as I can create for it.

Performances will be Nov 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 & 22 @ 6.30pm, at La Boheme on Grote St.

I’ve submitted the show as part of the Feast Festival so it will be listed in the festival program when it is released and tickets will be available through their ticket services.

Below are the 150 words I put together for the show’s listing in the Feast program. It’s not easy to sum up a show that’s still being created, but hopefully this gives at least a taste of what’s in store.

CABARET CONFESSIONAL

Have you ever felt a desire you couldn’t express? Wanted to get something off your chest?

…THE JERRY SPRINGER OF CABARET.

Cabaret Confessional holds up a mirror to the secrets you’re not ready to share with the world. In an age where society seems more comfortable revealing its inner thoughts to a website than a priest, this show takes a not-so-serious look at the psychology of secrets.

Matthew Carey’s fascination with cabaret is no secret. He has explored this intimate art in shows at Feast and the Cabaret Festival too numerous to list. He has toured Australia with “Flat on your Bacharach”, worked in London on the Olivier award winning production of Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” and his knowledge of repertoire and cabaret history is exhaustive.

Cabaret Confessional takes that experience and blends it with new material in this original show making its debut at Feast 2007.
