Another Perspective

By Matthew Carey

Mark Shenton is a theatre critic and journalist based in London. He writes regularly for The Stage in the UK as well as freelance pieces for other publications. He’s travelled to Adelaide two or three times previously to visit the Cabaret Festival. This year he’s back and his perspectives and comments on what he sees are invaluable. Invaluable because he spends a great deal of his time in London and New York – the traditional BIG centres of theatre, and New York being a traditional centre of cabaret. This means he can more objectively consider the performances offered in Adelaide in a global context, and he also has the means to get the word out about the festival that’s been created here in what might be the last outpost of cabaret. I subscribe to the rss feed of Mark’s blog online and last night read this entry which mentions ‘An Evening with Jeremy Sams’ as well as some other shows he discovered over the opening weekend of the festival. It’s definitely worth the read. I look forward to catching up with Mark more while he’s in town.
